Northern Finland in December is a dark and cold place. Sunlight is a rare thing and the temperature drops to minus very cold. The average temperature was minus 12 degrees Celcius most days. The days are short and the dark times are long – too long. That leaves very little time for photography and if the clouds allow any light through it is a rare event so make the most of it. These photos were taken on a rare sunny day when the sun skimmed the horizon for a few hours and lit up the sky with a bright glow of beautiful orange hues. I experimented with the panorama setting on the camera phone and these were the results. They were taken along the track beside Lake Ahvenjärvi in Northern Finland near the village of Nellim. The time was 2.30 in the afternoon.
